Bell & Ross BR 03-92 GREY LUM
The new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 GREY LUM is the latest addition to the brand’s Instruments line.
Bell & Ross has three major model families, Vintage, Experimental, and Instrument. The latter is arguably one of B&R’s most iconic model families. Within that, the BR 03 group is also the largest with 27 timepieces. From steel to PVD, two-tone, and even ceramic one can choose from many different looks as well as complications. The BR 03 line contains simple time-only pieces as well as watches with power reserve indicators, GMTs, and ever-popular chronograph complications. The BR 03-92 GREY LUM is coming to this line with its simple yet unmistakably Bell & Ross design. Great size, clean lines, and insane legibility are all features of the new Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GREY LUM. So, let’s have a closer look at this piece.
BR 03-92 GREY
The BR 03-92 GREY LUM is not an entirely new model, as I already mentioned above. It is the latest addition to an already existing line. As such the look is very similar to that of the other Bell & Ross BR 03 timepieces. The company calls the design something that is based on “industrial aesthetics” which is not a stretch by any means. The signature B&R square case with round aeronautical instrument-inspired dial ensures this watch stays very much on brand. The lines are clean, the case back is steel, the front has the four (perfectly aligned) screws in each corner of the square. The satin polished steel case works well with the anthracite grey sunray dial. It gives the BR 03-93 GREY LUM a very minimalist look. Yet due to its 42mm case size, it is still a rather masculine timepiece — “Bold and urban sport-chic” as the brand says.
BR 03-92 LUM
The BR 03-92 GREY LUM is clearly a new re-interpretation of an already working recipe. The company uses SuperLumiNova C3 a substance that does not degenerate as time goes by and provides strong and even glow for a long period of time. The C3 is extremely powerful, recharges quickly, and glows very brightly. Beyond its extremely noticeable luminous elements, the dial is otherwise simple without any unnecessary decoration or text.
The only feature other than the time-only function is the small, round date aperture between the four and five o’clock indexes. Inside the BR 03-92, GREY LUM is Bell & Ross’ caliber BR-CAL.302 (based on the Sellita SW-300-1). It’s an automatic mechanical movement with 38h of power reserve, 25 jewels, and 28,800vph. It is one of the most used calibers among Bell & Ross timepieces.
Other LUM models
The Bell & Ross BR 03-92 GREY LUM is not the only watch bearing the Lum designation. Currently, the brand offers 4 such timepieces of which this is the latest. The other three also come from the BR 03 line. Namely, the BR 03-94 HORO LUM (with a chronograph feature), and the BR 03-92 FULL LUM where the entire dial is coated with SuperLumiNova. Lastly, there is the BR 03-92 NIGHT LUM. That model is very similar to the GREY LUM but here you have a matte black ceramic case, black dial, and black strap. Speaking of straps, the BR 03-92 GREY LUM has a grey/green calfskin and ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric strap with a satin polished steel pin buckle to match the case. It fits well to the watch head and adds to the understated overall look. The retail price of the watch is €2,990. If you’d like to visit Bell & Ross’ website, click here.
